Every Man Should Know About “Flow”

Flow, defined as “an optimal state of consciousness, a peak state where we feel our best and perform our best” is (for most) an ever-elusive state. A state which researchers at the Flow Genome Project have spent the last 15 years trying to document the ways certain individuals harness and achieve the experience, and how to reproduce the effect across other domains.

Well, that all sounds peachy. But how can one consistently elevate yourself to this optimal state of consciousness? Well, it’s been proven that certain environmental, psychological, social, and creative triggers can be extremely conducive to producing a state of flow at any given time. Making good use of these can do wonders to incubate flow. Steven Kotler, New York Times Bestseller and author of The Rise of Superman, writes about these triggers in depth on “The Art of Manliness” blog.

Mihály Csíkszentmihályi, the father of Flow Theory, has given a TED talk (rightly named The Secret To Happiness) explaining more about the state.
